Body Gossip On Tour: Frequently Asked Questions

What if I don’t get any scripts?

This is a common worry. It’s worth bearing in mind that you don’t need dozens of scripts in order to put on a decent length performance. What you usually find is as the deadline approaches the number of submissions increases. If however you need more stories you can collect material in several other ways….

  • Run a writing workshop/ exercises with your actors.
  • Extend the deadline and encourage more entries.
  • As a last resort contact Body Gossip on Tour and we may be able to provide you with some scripts.

How much direction should I give?

There isn’t really a definite answer to this. It depends on the experience and skills base of you’re actors. You can get away with very little direction and still have a effective performance. Ultimately you should aim to keep the acting as realistic and simple as possible. However every Body Gossip event is unique so feel free to put your own spin on it. A simple guide to acting can be found under the resources page.

Where can I get Body Gossip t-shirts from?

Unfortunately although we can provide you with the Body Gossip logo you will need to have your own t-shirts printed. Visa Print has been used for past Body Gossip events although be aware of the postage costs and allow plenty of time for delivery. You may ask your actors to contribute to the price of the t-shirts and allow them to keep the t-shirts afterwards.

Where can I get funding for a Body Gossip event?

A Body Gossip event doesn’t need to cost loads on money. However you could ask your Students Union for funding (see pitch resource) or alternatively there are lots of ways to fund raise from cake sales to karaoke nights.

What if I don’t get an audience?

If you have got to the stage of the performance then you will already have engaged many students with the Body Gossip philosophy, this is important to remember. You can never totally guarantee an audience but can maximise your chances by publicising and word of mouth.

What if something goes wrong?

Unfortunately that’s the nature of theatre, it’s live! All you can do is stay calm and cope with the situation in the most effective way possible. In most situations what may seem a disaster to you, others may not even notice. However you can minimise the probability of a blunder by being fully prepared.

Can I use other forms of art?

Definitely, there are many ways to convey the Body Gossip message. It is always exciting to see new ways that students have found to express their body stories. Body Gossip events have previously included photography, live music and artwork.
