What do you think about this Radio Interview? Does Dr Clare Gerada understand eating disorders? Are GPs taking support for eating disorders seriously? What have your experiences been?
A lack of funding, or are doctors’ negative attitudes to blame?
If someone in your family has an eating disorder, it can take a heavy toll on your own wellbeing, and under Government guidelines agreed four years ago, carers are entitled to support from the NHS themselves. The eating disorder charity B-eat has recently surveyed 500 such families and found that only 12% feel they are receiving the support they need. So why are these guidelines being routinely ignored? Is it a lack of funding, or are doctors’ negative attitudes to blame?
Jane talks to a mother of a girl with an eating disorder, Susan Ringwood from B-eat and Dr Clare Gerada from the Royal College of GPs.
